Sunday Live Draws: What You Don't See Before We Go Live

If you've ever joined one of our Sunday live draws, you'll probably see us sitting behind the desk, ready to announce the winners.

Everything looks calm.

Everything looks organised.

What you don't see is the two hours before we press the "Go Live" button.

Every Sunday, our dining room stops being a dining room...

...and turns into the True Prizes studio.

The Dining Room Disappears

The first job is setting up the backdrop.

Now, if you've ever seen our live draws, you'll know it looks like it fits nicely behind us.

The truth?

It's a very tight squeeze.

There isn't much room to spare.

Getting it into position without knocking over chairs, moving furniture or trapping yourself behind it has become a bit of a weekly tradition.

We've got the routine down now, but it still makes us laugh every week.

Then Comes The Tech

Once the backdrop is up, it's time to build everything else.

The camera comes out.

The tripod goes up.

The laptop is connected.

The TV is connected.

Cables seem to appear from absolutely everywhere.

For a couple of hours, our dining room looks less like part of a family home and more like a television studio.

The funny part is that by Sunday evening, it all has to disappear again ready for family life to carry on as normal.

The Checks Begin

Once everything is plugged in, the real work starts.

Before we can even think about going live, we go through a long checklist.

Are all the ticket numbers correct?

Have all the competitions closed properly?

Is the stream working?

Can we hear the microphones clearly?

Are the cameras in focus?

Is the internet connection stable?

Have all the winner contact details been updated?

Is everything ready for those all-important winner phone calls?

It's the sort of work nobody ever sees, but it's probably the most important part of the day.

Why We Double Check Everything

People trust us to run fair and accurate live draws.

That trust means everything.

That's why we'd rather spend extra time checking everything than rush and risk making a mistake.

Of course, nobody watching the live draw ever sees those checks.

And that's exactly how it should be.

If we've done our job properly, all you'll notice is a smooth live draw.

Then We Press "Go Live"

After a couple of hours of moving furniture, plugging in cables, checking ticket numbers and making sure everything is ready...

...there's one click.

"Go Live."

Within seconds, people start joining the stream.

The comments begin.

The excitement builds.

And suddenly all the preparation disappears into the background.

Now it's all about the winners.

Then It All Happens In Reverse

Once the live draw finishes, we're not done.

Everything has to come back down.

The backdrop comes down.

The cables disappear.

The camera is put back.

The dining table reappears.

By the end of the evening, you'd never know a live competition draw had just taken place in the middle of our home.

It's back to being our dining room until next Sunday, when we do it all again.

Why We Love It

It might sound like a lot of work.

Because it is.

But every Sunday reminds us why we started True Prizes.

Seeing people join the live.

Watching the comments come in.

Calling winners.

Hearing the excitement in someone's voice when they realise they've won.

Those moments make every cable, every checklist and every hour of preparation worthwhile.

The Lesson

Today's lesson is simple.

The best results are built on preparation that nobody sees.

Whether it's running a business, playing sport, studying for an exam or learning a new skill, people usually only see the finished product.

They don't see the practice.

The preparation.

The planning.

The hard work.

Success often looks effortless from the outside.

The reality is that it's usually built long before anyone is watching.

Looking Ahead

Next Sunday, when you join one of our live draws, you'll probably see exactly what you've always seen.

A backdrop.

A camera.

A couple of people announcing winners.

But now you'll know what happened during the two hours before we went live.

And somehow, I think that makes every winner's announcement feel even more special.
